Wordless Wednesday - More Vacation Pics

For this Wordless Wednesday, I thought I would share some pictures of our vacation! On the way home from Chicago, we stopped in Wisconsin Dells. We went to a Storybrook Garden / Wildlife Place. The main reason I went is because I saw on their brochure that you could actually feed the animals! How cool, right??

We basically had the place to ourselves since it was a weekday and school was back in session. No summer rush, no crowds! It was the perfect day to go!

The coolest animal by far was this giraffe. I have never gotten so close to a giraffe before!

(My daughter Petting the Giraffe!)

(He Kinda freaked me out, he was just so big LOL! This was the closest I could get and have a smile!)

(Seriously, check out that tongue!!)

(My daughter loved the Zebra! He was very sweet and less intimidating than the Giraffe)

Pumpkin Carving & Painting

It's almost October already, which mean Halloween is on its way! We have not purchased our big pumpkin yet, but soon we will be picking one out to carve.

I am always at a loss for a cool pattern or a creative idea for my pumpkins. They always end up having the triangle eyes, and a jagged toothed mouth! Of course, my daughter loves them just the same. My husband made Elmo one year, and you could actually kinda tell it was him, LOL!

If you are having a party and really want to impress your guests, you can get some great Pumpkin Carving Patterns at The Pumpkin Lady. Their selection is HUGE! The patterns look to be a couple of dollars, but if you scroll to the bottom, there are some freebie patterns (the best kind IMO!)

So far we have purchased a couple small pumpkins, which are great for toddlers to paint. One afternoon last week I brought out the paints and we had some fun! We had two mini pumpkins, so we each decorated one. She likes when I do her little crafts with her, and I actually think it's fun too!

(Hey, that's Mommy's pumpkin LOL!)

(Making it pretty!)

(The finished Pumpkins! Can you tell which one is mine?)

These little pumpkins are on sale at our grocery store right now for $1, so I will be picking up a couple more so we can make some with faces & hair! She'll love that!

And I just found a great link from Parents magazine with some great pumpkin painting ideas!! I will be checking those out soon, and if I create any I'll be sure to post them!

How about your family? Do you carve pumpkins? And do you do anything special or just freehand a funny face?

Wendy's High School Heisman Program - With Giveaway!

GIVEAWAY CLOSED*** WINNER ANNOUNCED SOON!

Thanks to Mom Central, I have a great program to share with you from Wendy's! For those of you who have kids that are teenagers, or maybe have a friend that does, you'll want to find out more about their High School Heisman Program!

This program celebrates teenagers that stand out and who excel in academics, athletics, and community involvement. During high school our kids take on so many extra activities and work out to build their college resumes, and this is a great way to help those kids get noticed!

High School students who have a 3.0 grade average or higher, are involved in school sponsored sports, and who are involved in their community can apply at www.WendyHeisman.com, or a school educator, guidance counselor, or a coach can nominate them. As a little reward for entering, the first 41,000 entrants will receive a free Wendy's gift card with amounts ranging from $5 to $50.

One male and one female from each high school will win the award and continue on in competition for state and national awards. Then twelve national Finalists will participate in Heisman Weekend Activities during an all expense paid trip to New York City! If that isn't great enough, ESPN will also feature all twelve finalists during the Wendy's High School Heisman Award ceremony which airs December 13th!! I know a lot of teens that would be thrilled to be on TV, especially ESPN!

The Wendy's High School Heisman website will display all of the names of the applicants and individual school winners on October 22, 2009.

This is a wonderful opportunity for any teenager, and would be great at helping them stand out for College Applications. To learn more about this program, please visit their website!

As a way to help spread the word about this great program, Wendy's would like to offer one Ladybug Soup reader a $20 Wendy's Gift Card! YUMMY! Wendy's is one of our favorite places to get fast food. It's That Time...

Alright, it's that time again.

Diet Time.

I can't put it off any longer. I will be honest and tell you that I don't like to exercise. But I do like to lose weight :) Back in January, I wrote a post about my new weight loss attempt, and it actually worked!

After losing that weight, I kept exercising for only a few more weeks. Then I went back to eating whatever I wanted and not working out, but actually didn't gain it all back, just a couple pounds which I was okay with. But NOW, I have totally gained it all back. I don't have a scale anymore, but I honestly don't need one to tell me I am bigger. I have the proof.

I can't fit in any of my shorts. Well, not comfortably anyway!

Yeah, I just admitted that for everyone to read! LOL I am secretly happy that summer has ended, because that means I can go back to wearing jeans, and most of those still fit! But all of my shorts and capris do not.

So, I am gearing myself up for the hard work that is coming for me. The last time I lost my weight, it was by doing the 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels (from the Biggest Loser). For me, that video WORKED. I did it everyday, and saw results. I had tried workout videos before, but I think what really helped the pounds come off was using the hand weights in my workout. I never had them in any other program I tried, I would just do the cardio moves alone. But I think adding the weights really helped. And they were only 3 pounds, nothing crazy :)

The thing of course that is the hardest is the dieting. Ugh. I love food, and sitting at home all day makes it easy to eat! So we'll see. Oh, and there's the holidays coming up! Maybe I am crazy for dieting before the holidays, but I am starting to feel bad about my body, and I need a change. And if it doesn't work, I'll try again. At least I know it's possible now, that helps.

I am also hoping that working out will bring me some much needed energy! I need a little boost, and that may be just the thing for me!

Faber-Castell Creativity For Kids Review & Giveaway!!

As a Stay at Home Mom, or even just a mom of a young child, crafts and activities are a huge must for us. They are fun to do, help a child explore their creativity, and create a chance for us to play together and interact together. Now that my daughter is getting a little older, she is able to do more and enjoys making things that she can play with or even just show her Daddy :) The smile she gets when she makes something just lights her up, and makes me so happy to see! I can tell she is proud of what she has done!

If you are looking for fun activities to do with your child, or a great birthday gift for a kid, look no further than Faber-Castelll!! Their Creativity For Kids products offer so many different kits that are perfect for your little crafter! And there is something for all ages there too! We were able to review the Make Your Own Animal Puppets, which is great for Preschoolers. The kit came with 3 super soft socks, in gray , white, and pink. Also included in this kit are all of the pieces you need to create some really fun, adorable sock puppet animals! You get sticky felt pieces, wiggly eyes, and fuzzy embellishments for tails & such!

My daughter and I had so much fun making these puppets!! Because she is only two, I had to do some of the harder things, but she was actually able to do a lot too. She chose which animals we would make...we started with the elephant and then the flamingo. We saved the third sock for another day :) She loved helping stick the felt pieces on the elephant, like the ears, nose, and hands. Because there was no glue necessary, it was easy for her to do on her own! The flamingo was loads of fun too because you got to give him some funky hair and dangly legs! Adding the hair and legs would probably be okay for an older child, because that's the one thing I had to read the directions for, LOL! Once I read them though, it made sense, LOL! After we were done, we played with them on our hands & made them talk, which my daughter loved so much! And I must say, I had a lot of fun creating these with her! I love that the kit was completely mess free and you didn't need any glue or scissors. That's my kind of craft!

Creativity For Kids' products are all designed in the USA, and conform to all US toy safety standards. In their 31 year history, they have never experienced a recall! They take safety seriously, which I truly appreciate as a mom! These kits would make such great birthday or Christmas gifts, they truly engage the child and can be a really fun group activity!

Check out some of the other kits you can find at Creativity for Kids!

The BFF Flower Bracelets would be a great party activity!

Or how about the the Create Your Own Pop Up Book Kit! This would be tons of fun for your little reader & drawer!

These Ceramic Holiday Ornaments would be so great for the holiday season that is quickly approaching! I would love to make these with my daughter and hang them on the tree. They would make a wonderful keepsake to always look back on & remember the fun we had when she was a toddler!
We had so much fun making our make Your Own Animal Puppets kit, I loved how we got to create something fun together, and that we can always take them out to make our own little puppet show too!

Creativity for Kids is offering you the chance to win a kit of your own!

GIVEAWAY: One lucky reader will win their choice of any of the PreSchool Kits! What a fun selection to choose from!!!

StoneyField Farms - YoBaby Review & Giveaway!!

GIVEAWAY CLOSED! WINNER ANNOUNCED SOON!

One of the first real meals my daughter had when she was still a baby was
YoBaby Yogurt. I was really drawn to this brand because it was Organic, and I was very adamant that everything going into my young child needed to have natural ingredients and be the absolute best food for her. YoBaby Yogurt is made without the use of antibiotics, synthetic growth hormones, & toxic, persistent pesticides. It's also full of great nutrients like Zinc, Calcium, Vitamin D, Protein, and live Active Cultures that are great for your baby's tummy.

These days, my two year old still loves to eat YoBaby yogurt, which makes me really happy because some days she is so picky with her food choices, it's hard to get a good healthy meal in her. Her favorite flavor used to be Apple, but now she gobbles up the Strawberry Banana! Since she is a toddler now, I let her feed it to herself out of a bowl, and she does really great with it! It is very creamy and is a great first food for babies - ages 6 months and older.

The newest product from Stoneyfield farms YoBaby is the YoBaby Meals...a delicious combination of yogurt, fruit, and veggies! Yes, I said Veggies :) There is a fruit & veggie puree in the bottom of the cup, and yogurt on top. These YoBaby Meals are a great way to ensure your baby gets essential nutrients from 3 important food groups in an easy and fuss free way. And the best part is that they taste so great, your baby or toddler won't even know they are eating those vegetables! YoBaby Meals comes in these 3 Flavors:
  • Pear & Green Bean
  • Peach & Squash
  • Apple & Sweet Potato
We loved our YoBaby products, and it is definitely a favorite brand for my family (and so many others!) And thanks to Stoneyfield Farms, you can enter to win this great YoBaby Prize Pack for your own child to try!

GIVEAWAY: YoBaby has very generously offered to give one lucky reader this great Gift Pack! Gift Pack contains:
  • Reusable YoBaby
  • An Eric Carl Growth Chart
  • YoBaby Travel Bowl with lid & utensils
  • Organic YoBaby Bib
  • 5 Free YoBaby Coupons
TO ENTER: Please visit Stoneyfield Farms and tell me which product looks great for your child (or you!)

Temple Touch Thermometer Giveaway!

GIVEAWAY CLOSED***WINNER TO BE ANNOUNCED

As most moms know, having a sick child is very hard on everyone. They are extra tired, extra sensitive, and having their temperature taken is the last thing they want to do. We use an ear thermometer right now, and my daughter used to hate it. She has gotten pretty used to it now, but it's very hard to use when she is asleep in bed. It will always wake her up, which is understandable - having something stuck in your ear isn't the greatest feeling!

MomSelect sent me a Temple Touch Thermometer to review with my family. This thermometer is simply placed on your child's temple and gets a reading within seconds. It's noninvasive for them and super convenient for Moms...who at 3AM don't exactly want to be fumbling around and waking their child up with an oral thermometer (or worse, rectal!)

Using your TempleTouch Thermometer is very easy! Just follow these steps:

Quick Start:
1. Press and release the POWER button.
2. Unit will beep twice when ready.
3. Hold firmly to temple, wait for next beep.
4. Read results

The Temple Thermometer comes in 2 varities...the Mini Temple Touch ($9.94 at most WalMart locations) and the Premium Temple Touch ($29.99 at most Walgreens locations).

GIVEAWAY: Thanks to Mom Select, I have one Temple Touch Thermometer to giveaway to one reader!

TO ENTER: Simply leave a topic related comment! It can be why you want to win this thermometer, what type you currently use, how you keep your child healthy once school starts, etc!

EXTRA ENTRIES: Please leave a comment for every additional entry you complete
  1. Follow my Blog
  2. Subscribe
  3. Add my NEW Button

Wordless Wednesday - Trip to Chicago - Navy Pier

Here are a few pictures from our recent visit to Chicago! These 4 were all taken at Navy Pier!

The city was really pretty once the sun went down and all of the city lights came on!

This picture is the three of us on a GIANT anchor at the end of the Navy Pier. It's kinda hard to see us well, but you had to stand back to get the whole anchor in the shot :)

This is just a cute one of us on some steps at the Pier.

And my FAVORITE picture of all...my daughter and my husband on the carousel. My daughter was pretty cranky because she had such a long day. But then we saw the carousel, and she lit up! She loves to ride the ponies, and she was very excited! So we get there, and by this time everything is pretty much shutting down because it's Sunday and getting close to 8pm. When we got there, he said they were closing it up. He asked us if we had a ticket....a ticket?? Nope! We didn't even know where to go for them! So he looked at my daughter, and told the guy controlling the rides "Just do one more" Then told us to go ahead!

So we got a free ride on this beautiful carousel! They were the only two on there, and as it spun around it gave you the most beautiful view of the city! So to the guy who gave my family a break & didn't disappoint my little girl, thank you!!

Problem Moderating Comments, Some Comments Stuck

I wanted to let everyone know that I am having some issues with Blogger today. For some reason, I cannot get into my 'moderate comments' section - which means I have some comments stuck in moderation and I can't get to them & post them!

I am SO sorry for this inconvenience. I am hoping the issue will be resolved, but until then I have turned off my comment moderation. So all of your comments will show up immediately, and I won't lose anymore of them.

I was able to publish some of them by getting into my Google Email account, but not all of them are showing up.

Take a look at the giveaway posts to see if your comment is showing up. If it is not, please leave another comment. Don't worry about duplicates, if I somehow get into the stuck comments I will check to make sure they have not already been added by you.

This started around 11AM CST today...if you commented anytime before that your comments are fine :)

Again, I am SO sorry & thanks for taking the time to enter these great giveaways!!

Taking A Long Trip With A Toddler? Pack this!

When planning our looonnnnnggg car trip to Chicago, I had to really be prepared for anything. And by anything, I mean toddler meltdowns and toddler boredom. 7 hours is a long time for anyone to have to sit in a car, let alone a bouncy, active two year old.

So I had a plan of action. I had been putting little things away for about a month, saving them for the trip. Little toys from dollar sections, books, treats, etc. Then the day before we left, my awesome m
om brought over a few extra things she had picked up that day.

One of the things she bought was this Dora The Explorer Water Wow Doodle Book. And it is seriously
the coolest thing ever. You just fill up the little pen with water, and she can paint the book! (I did come prepared and had a little thermos of water for this specific reason, to fill it on the go) Mess free, love that! And what's even better is that it dries itself, so she can paint this little book OVER & OVER! To be honest, I had so much packed & she was SO well behaved, I actually didn't bust this thing out until we were already home. But it holds her attention so well, and she asks for it as soon as gets in the car! I am going to be on the lookout for more characters to mix it up a little!

This next toy is specific to my daughter, not necessarily the best for traveling but I knew she would be so excited to get this little toy.

The next thing I picked up for her was a special little toy I knew she would love. It is a Disney Princess Splash N Swim Baby Ariel. My daughter seriously has a love for Ariel....she always asks to hear the Ariel story when I put her to bed at night. The best part? I picked it up for only $2 at a Clearance section at Target! They were clearing out their pool toys, and we were looking through some pools & floaties. Then there she was....I was so excited to give it to her, and held on to it for weeks before the trip. It was hard not to give it to her, but I really wanted a great surprise for her once we got there.

And she totally adores her! She had her with her the whole trip, and even loves taking baths with her. Yes I said that. My daughter, who HATES baths, loves to play in the water with Ariel. Of course, it's only because she is assured I won't be washing her hair :)

In addition to the Baby Ariel, I also picked up The Little Mermaid from Barnes and Noble. I figured it was time she had a copy of the story she always wanted to hear. That and I only knew half the story, LOL! It was nice to read this and fill in those blanks I had left out at bedtime :)
